Cherie Beatty Palmer, 79, of Latrobe, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2018 at her home. She was born January 12, 1939 in Latrobe, the daughter of the late Ralph V. and Lena (Beatty) Palmer.
Cherie was a 1957 graduate of Latrobe High School and a 1961 graduate of the Indiana State Teachers College. She received her teaching certificate from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont.
Prior to retirement, Cherie was a school teacher in the Latrobe School District from 1968 until 1993. She taught Spanish and French to students in grades six through twelve. She had also previously taught in the Lewisburg, PA and Bethel Park School Districts.
Cherie was an active member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Latrobe. Her volunteerism at the church included their Outreach Program, After School Club, Friends in Christ Sunday School Class, Children’s Shoebox, Bethany Prayer Warriors and Operation Christmas Child. She was also the point person for Samaritan’s Purse and active with Compassion International. She was very active with United Methodist Women and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to her parents, Cherie was preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Mary Elizabeth and Bill Yates. She is survived by a number of cousins and many special friends.
A heartfelt thanks to Cherie’s wonderful neighbors Kim and Paul Henry and their family, and also special friend Ardi Hill, for their love and care.
There will be no funeral home visitation. All are welcome to a funeral service for Cherie at 11 AM Monday, April 9th in the Bethany United Methodist Church, 2415 Laveen Street, Latrobe, with the Rev. Les Hutchins officiating. Private interment will be in Unity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Allegheny, 100 Camp Allegheny Dr., Stoystown, PA 15563, online at www.campallegheny.org., or to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 2415 Laveen St. Latrobe, PA 15650.
