Doris Arnowitz, 88, of Penn Township, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in William Penn Senior Suites and Personal Care. She was born May 27, 1930 in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Samuel and Eva (Zipler) Kornblum.
Prior to her retirement, Doris was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the Unemployment Office in Greensburg. For more than 25 years Doris helped many clients and enjoyed providing service to those seeking her assistance. Prior to her position in Westmoreland County, Doris and her late husband Richard owned and operated one of the first Open Pantry franchise stores in Pleasant Hills. This was a family operation that continued until the store was sold in 1970. She was a feisty and formidable woman who was respected by her family, friends, and colleagues. Doris adored her children, loved traveling and attending Kiwanis events with her husband, enjoyed reading the Bible and spending time with friends from her church.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard Arnowitz, a grandson, Sean Richard Arnowitz, and three siblings, Selma, Harris, and Marvin Kornblum. She is survived by her two children, Steven Arnowitz and his wife Colleen (Murphy) and Frances Cinardo and her husband David; and two nephews, Howard and Mark Kornblum.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kiwanis International at www.kiwanis.org, Rotary International at www.rotary.org, the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, or to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc. in Latrobe.
