I would like to add my condolences to the Mucci family. He was a great coach and greater person. I first met coach in 1959 at GCCHS. In 1965, while home on leave from the Navy, I accidently ran into him. He ask what I wanted to do after the Navy. I said that I wanted to go college and work with computers. Three weeks later when I returned to the ship, I had offers from 3 schools. I went to Clarion, got a good education, married my wife and worked with computers the next 45 years. That is what this life should he -- helping people
Thanks coach. Rest In Peace. Bill Burkart

The McCormick family sends to all the Mucci family our deepest sympathy and condolences for the loss of your wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Coach Mucci "The Chief" was a inspiration to me as I grew up spending time at the Mucci home eating wonderful Italian food especially the best packed meatballs in the world. And truth be told it WAS my idea to raid the hospitality suite at Joe and Kristen's wedding. I just blamed it on Wink and Gilbert. :) But everyone already knew that.
We as a family are thinking of you all in this sad time. May your loving memories help bring you gentle comfort.

The Kelly Family lit a candle

To the Mucci Family-our family was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of a great coach and mentor. My father, Pat Kelly, had much admiration and respect for Coach Mucci during the era of the Jeannette-PT rivalry. Throughout my father's retirement until his death, Coach Mucci and he spent a lot of time at retired Athletic Director luncheons and similar events, talking football and reminiscing about the 'old days'. I can guarantee that they are discussing some game strategy in heaven as we speak.
Our sincerest sympathies,
The Pat Kelly Family (Brian, Nancy, Tim, Amy, Chris, and Joyfa)

To the entire Mucci Family my Deepest Sympathy to you over the loss of Coach Mucci. I've carried his impact on me as a coach, teacher of life and mentor throughout my life and passed much of it on to my children. He was a tremendous man who gave of himself freely. It was always such a pleasure to sit and talk with him and pick his brain...his insights were valuable. My last contact was at the Jayhawk HOF Dinner in February. Our 1971 team was inducted that evening and I stood next to Coach in the team photo taken...a treasure that I had framed and will keep with me forever.
God Bless Coach Mucci, May You Rest in Peace

My heartfelt prayers and condolences are offered to the Mucci family. Coach was a special man who impacted the lives of an untold number of Jeannette youths. He taught his players how to win on the field but more importantly helped prepare them for life. He showed us how to become better citizens, better leaders and better men.
His reach extended far beyond those who wore the Jayhawk helmet. A staunch advocate for education, Coach had a positive influence on the entire student body, staff, and Jeannette community. He knew not only your name but something special about you as an individual.
Coach instilled an extreme work ethic, integrity, and a sense of pride into all of us. An exceptional communicator, he never failed to delver the right words at the right moment. I had the sincere honor of playing three years during his legendary career and am humbled to have played on his last undefeated WPIAL Championship squad in 1983 and his final team in 1985. Coach Mucci will be dearly missed but never forgotten, his legacy will live on for eternity.
Thank you coach for always believing in me. Rest Easy on Heaven’s Sideline. #64

"Just a note to let you know..." That's the way Mr. Mucci began many letters of congratulations to those lucky enough to be acquainted with this dear man. He always took the time to recognize and build up those around him. I was fortunate to be his secretary in the early 1970's at Jeannette, and he was a wonderful influence on my life. It brought me joy over the years when I would run into him and Trudy and he took the time to inquire about my life and my family. I will never forget his big smile and the hugs that he gave so freely. Rest in peace, Mr. Mucci. You will be missed.

To the family (especially Joe, whom I remember from Greensburg Central Catholic): I never met Joe, but I heard so many good things about him, that I almost feel as though I knew him. One thing that was told to me is that, when Mucci was the coach at Central, he instructed his players that, if a teacher was late for class, the team member should take over and run the class until the teacher came. A teacher never had to worry about being late if there was a football player in the class. Quite a legacy!

We are profoundly saddened by the Coach's passing. My son Jon was “his” football manager for four years in the 80's. He encouraged, supported, and unwaveringly believed in Jon. He made a difference in Jon's life and self worth, and we are forever grateful. To this day, he and Jon remained friends. Your dad always told me to give Jon his love-that he was such a good man, and he was proud of who he had become. There are no words to describe what an exceptional person the Coach was. This world has lost one of the best there was. Take comfort that he is at peace. Your family was so blessed by him. Our hearts are heavy with loss, but Coach Mucci is forever in our hearts. God bless your family. Jon and Peggi Pedersen
