Obituary of Donald Weiers

Donald E. Weiers, 82, of Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh.  He was born May 12, 1935 in Latrobe, a son of the late John Weiers and Rosella (Upholster) Weiers.

Prior to his retirement in 1997, Donald was employed by the Latrobe Steel Co. for over 44 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Latrobe. He was also a member of the Cooperstown Veterans and Sportsmen’s Club, the Frontier Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Tony Angelo Airee 01188, the Lloydsville Sportsmen’s Club and the Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Social Club. Donald was an avid outdoorsman. Fishing, hunting, relaxing at his camp in Potter County and spending time with his granddaughters were among his favorite pastimes. He was also proud of his home brewed beer that he shared with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife Laura Mae Trongo Weiers. He is survived by three children, Louis J. Weiers and wife Lisa of Evans City, Gretchen C. Weiers of Latrobe, and Don Thomas Weiers and wife Chasity of Latrobe; two grandchildren, Sonja and Breana Weiers; and three siblings, John Weiers of Everson, Thomas Weiers and wife Joyce of Alverton, and Jean Sphon of Penn Trafford.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral, Inc. 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. F.O.E. 01188 will hold services at 3PM on Sunday in the funeral home. Military honors accorded by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 9:15 AM Monday in the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Church, 1200 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
