George Gera Sr. 87, of Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born April 12, 1925 in Peanut, PA a son of the late Michael and Mary (Pacuta) Gera.
Prior to retirement, George was employed by the former Teledyne Vasco with 40 years of service and he was a veteran of WW II having served with the US Navy. He was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish and the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515 in Latrobe.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Andrew, and Michael Gera, and five sisters: Theresa Slifka, Helen Meloy, Ann Kozenko, Susanna Plessinger, and Mary Himic.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Evelyn (Keys) Gera, two sons; George F. Gera Jr. and his wife Pat of State College, and Richard "Rich" Gera and his wife Wendy of Grand Junction, CO, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister, Veronica Harshall of Peanut, a sister-in-law, Alice Gera of Michigan, a brother-in-law, Fred Slifka of Derry Township, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc. 1500 Ligonier St. in Latrobe. A blessing service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday in the funeral home chapel followed by military services accorded by the combined funeral detail of American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
