Obituary of Suzanna Frenchik
Suzanna ‘Suzie’ B. (Shusta) Frenchik, 92, of Latrobe passed away on Monday, March 19th in the Loyalhanna Care Center. She was born on October 13, 1925 in Monessen, a daughter of the late George and Anastasia (Sutrik) Shusta.
Suzanna was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Bradenville. She began her career as an operator for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania. She then worked for Westmoreland County in the Addressograph office and later retired from the Westmoreland County Election Bureau in 1974. She also worked for Derry Township tax collector Emil Kraynak during the 1960’s and 1970’s, getting to know many of the township residents in the process. Suzie then came out of retirement to assume the role of Derry office manager for Senator Mark Singel in 1981. Suzie was very active in the Westmoreland County Democratic Party and the Tax Collectors Association during the 1960’s and 1970’s, even serving as a member of Edmund Muskie’s 1972 presidential campaign staff. Suzie then served the Saxman district as the Judge of Election for over 10 years after leaving Senator Singel’s office.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Frenchik in 1980, as well as her brothers George and John Shusta, and her sisters Mary Chuberka, Sophie Dean, Ann Shusta, Margaret Dacko, and Helen Kraynek. She is survived by her sister Verne Chuprinko of Vail, AZ; her ‘adopted’ grandson Mark Vadas and his wife Pam; her two favorite playtime buddies and great-grandsons, Andrew and Nicholas Vadas; her special friend Barbara Vadas; and many nieces and nephews. Suzie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Excela Health Hospice and Loyalhanna Care Center for the compassionate care that she received.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. Parastas services will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday and Panachida services will be held at 9:15 AM Thursday, both in the funeral home. Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 AM Thursday in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 112 St. Mary’s Way, Bradenville, PA 15620.
